Back from the Depths

The new home of horror comics on the web.

After watching the usual Carrie and Christine, i decided to delve into more of Stephen King;s work. I had stopped reading his books along time ago, but i remember watching The Langoliers and was instantly hooked. Then along came The Stand, Storm of the Century, Salem's Lot, Sometimes They Come Back and Pet Cemetary. I have this weekend, for the first time, watched 1408 the directors cut and found the film instantly gripping from the start, totally unexepected and a wonderful film that i can say i WILL watch again.
Even though i no longer read Stephen King's books i am still a big fan of the films and look forward to more.

Sounds good. Stand By Me and Misery are worth a look too.

Never seen stand by me but Misery is great... think authors became scared of their number one fans for a while ha ha :)

Diane, a film came out earlier this year called 'The Mist'

Brilliant SK film.

Hi

I saw that not long back when it was premiered on sky. Really liked it, the story was spooky, although i am terrible for guessing the endings to things, the monsters were a bit wacky but it was certainly creepy and shows what panic can do to people :)
I remember when i watched The Langoliers, they showed it on tv in two parts. At the end of the first one i had scared myself silly with the noise of these things and what they could be that for two nights, until i saw the second part, i could not sleep properly.
It's a real shame that he is going blind and he will haveto have someone write his books for him in time, his brain for terror and the imagination and making you believe you could be in a situation like that, is scary to say the least

I loved The Mist. It was one of my favourite Stephen King short stories, and when I heard Darabont was on board, I couldn't wait to see it. It doesn't disapppoint. Saw the Langoliers on Sky a few years back too, and I really liked that. Didn't it have Dean Stockwell of Quantum Leap fame in it?

Couple of other favourites from the old King days are the movies of Firestarter, Cujo and The Dead Zone.

It did have Dean Stockwell in and he played a very good part too. Cujo was one of the first one that i ever saw, Sometimes they come back i thought was very good too, but my favourite has to be 1408, i thought that was brilliant. I have watched a few times now and things just jump out at you that you never noticed before. I also like Salem's Lot ( big David Soul fan) but the film is great.
Pet Semetary(i read the book first) i thought was very spooky too :)

Salem's Lot used to terrify me! When I was a kid they showed that one over two nights as well. I've got the full version now, and although in some places its dated badly, there's still something really creepy about it.
There's a new version out, dunno if you've seen that one? Rob Lowe plays David Soul's part and Donald Sutherland does James Mason. It's pretty good, and more faithful to the book, but, oddly, although the effects are better, the vampires in the old version seem scarier.

The new one, yes i watched it but do think that the older versions are better. I remember when they did the new one of The Shining, because Stephen King apparently did not like the old one, i watched first half hour and did not watch ever again. Jack Nicholson....you can't top his performance :)

Yeah, I saw that new version of the Shining too. The less said about that, the better! I'm always a bit anxious when I hear they're making a movie of one of his books these days... for every Shawshank Redemption, there's a Maximum Overdrive... :-)

Maximum Overdrive...i thought that had ben long forgotten.....that truck with the evil pixie face......that was just too much to bear:(
I bet Emilio Estevez tells people it wasn't really him in that :)

Ha! It wasn't really one of his finest moments!
