Back from the Depths

The new home of horror comics on the web.

As of this post we now have a juicy 23 members in this group. It is however a bit quiet at the mo, so...

Lets have a little 'e-meet n greet' on this forum thread. Dont be shy! I'll start us off.

Name: Ghastly McNasty (Tim)

About: Hello all, I'm the founder of this website, long time Scream fan and fully licensed uber geek from Halesown here in the UK.

For those who dont know Back from the Depths was actually a Uni project on web design that blossomed in to the modest BFTD empire that we have today. I enjoyed making the site so much that I am now a full time web developer. I owe a huge thanks to Scream for actually giving me a direction in life, crazy eh.

I would love to be able to devote more time to writing and drawing comics and one day finally produce the long awaited Scream tribute issue. I've got some decent skills in designing websites/adverts/graphics and fairly nifty with several software packages. It would be nice to be able to transfer these skills in to the comic world.

Other interests of mine include films, books, gaming, graphic novels, partying, football, (its a great time to be a Aston Villa fan at the moment) and anything geeky.

So tell us about yourself...

Hey Mr. McNasty,

Great job on the site, it's nice to meet whimsical and nostalgic geeks like myself! Allow me to introduce myself...

My name is Rob, I'm the Manager of a successful Challenging Behaviour Unit and a full-time Dad to 4 children. I myself am an uber geek (big star wars nerd) and I come from Weston super Mare in the UK.

I wanted to get into drawing comics growing up but the imminent arrival of my first child changed plans and forced me to get a real job! I find it hard to find the time to get into the obsessive and selfish state of mind I used to enjoy when drawing for hours at a time and as such don't get to draw much these days as it isnt something I can pick up and put down :(

Other interests include playng my guitar, working out, movies, books, comics and Liverpool FC (You can keep Gareth Barry, McNasty! Lol).

I hope to meet more of you guys soon!

Let's see, I'm nerdy, geeky, ooky and spooky. I'm into horror, graphic novels, etc. I work a pretty crap job (hospital orderly) to give me more time to do comic strips. I live in Mlebourne, Australia.

I'm planning to biuld up a collection of short stories, then see who likes them...

I'm John Owens.

I'm a software programmer and website developer. Soon-to-be famous comic book writer :P (Check out http://www.futurequake.co.uk/fq/issue.php?title=Something%20Wicked&...)

My first memory of Scream was Dracula killing the milkman in the holiday issue.

I write stories now and then. It's not always horror stuff. Some are crime based, drama and thrillers. My dream is to self publish a serial killer graphic novel. Or pitch it to Image Comics.

I was 8 years old when I knew I always wanted to be a writer. I can't draw for toffee, though.

I have met Countess before in the real world. I believe Countess has met a few others too.

Talking of serial killers, have you ever seen 'Dexter' the TV program. If you havent then do it now. Would be good research for your graphic novel Jova

"Talking of serial killers..."? :O

Just what are you implying Ghastly? I'm innocent, I tell you! They were all complete accidents and I was somewhere else entirely at the time! You can't prove a thing!!!!

Oh. You're referring to what Jova said, aren't you?

Um.... Forget everything I just said.

I have seen the first series but not Series 2 of Dexter.

I already have an idea for the serial killer's agenda. I'm not making it gory or anything like it. I want to make it psychological scary. The serial killer is playing cat and mouse with 2 detectives leaving clues behind at crime scenes. It's an idea I had for the past few years.

Anyway, I'm taking the thread off track. Let's talk about ourselves, instead. :)

Hello Ghastly. Im a 38 year old professional tattooist who found your site on wikipedia while searchin the net for scans of Scream. couldnt believe it when I saw your site. Bought back so many memories of the comic I used to love. Its fantastic. I see that your looking for artists to design an issue in memory of this superb publication. Well I used to be a semi-pro freelance artist doing portraits and so fourth. I do not have much time for drawing and painting now due to me being a fulltime tattooist but I am at your service. It would be a great honour to contribute something. Speak soon Ghastly.

Regards

John

Hi, I'm Cav.

I'm a magazine editor, writer and producer who loves, repeat loves retro horror comics.

In the daytime I edit a magazine for the BBC and in the evenings I write scripts for among others, Doctor Who, Judge Dredd and Highlander. I live in Bristol with my family (lovely wife, two daughters) and have spent this afternoon pulling down a shed. That was strangely satisfying.

So, hello!

Cav
